Premium laser marking for smaller budgets

The labeling specialist Murrplastik Systems presents the new LM 1 Premium laser marking system, which enables automated and cost-effective in-house production, even for medium-sized companies.

Laser-marked metal or plastic identification tags are widely used in the automation industry. For example, for labeling wires, cables, terminals, operating and signaling devices or for switching and media devices. Medium-sized companies previously shunned in-house production with a premium laser system, since acquisition and operation were significantly more expensive compared to outsourcing. Murrplastik now introduces the LM1, a premium laser marking system that not only scores with its low purchase price; The low operating and maintenance costs make automated laser marking affordable even for companies without high labeling volumes.

Murrplastik presents the LM 1, a laser system that can be used to produce abrasion-resistant quality markings on a variety of base materials. The high quality of laser marking of plastic results from a chemical reaction in the marking material itself, “carbonization”. It is a color change, which is only generated by the impact of the laser beam moved through a mirror, and the laser marking is thus made contactless.
As a result, the label is razor sharp even with the smallest fonts and graphics. Due to the “carbonization” the labeling is resistant to UV light, acid, oil, mechanical stress and other environmental influences. Signs made of polycarbonate and polypropylene (PC / PP), anodized aluminum, stainless steel or laser foils can be labeled with a maximum size of 120 x 120mm².

From the production floor to the office.

Optionally, the LM1 laser system may include additional accessories such as a suction and filter unit. The air-cooled laser marker LM1 is quite compact for its performance class.

Automated labeling is now affordable.

Identification labels can be labeled automatically with the LM1 laser system. Signs made of PC or PP are stacked directly in the insertion hopper. For laser applications made of aluminum, stainless steel or laser foil material, the identification labels are first placed on a variable base plate and then inserted into the hopper. If different print materials are contained in a print job, the respective number is ensured by separating mats when changing the type. The conversion from one print job to another is done in a few simple steps.
The labeled labels are stacked in a removable container. Upon request, this collection container can be replaced by company-specific storage system boxes.

The handling with the proven ACS software is intuitive.

The handling of the LM 1 laser station is very easy. The LM 1 can be operated via USB port or Ethernet via a PC and the proven labeling software ACS. The user uses the ACS software to determine the optical density of the label and has all numbers, symbols, logos and fonts under control. Intuitive ACS software makes it easy to move from a printer system to the LM1 laser marker. Existing projects can be imported in a short time.

Minimal acquisition and operating costs.

Especially when using a laser printer, the hidden costs reveal themselves. Because in addition to the purchase price, the operating costs must be taken into account. Here, the new LM1 laser marking system can convince with its minimal operating costs across the board. On the one hand, the LM1 laser marker does not require any consumables – on the other hand, the system operates almost service-free, so the maintenance effort is minimal. The energy consumption is exemplary. The power consumption of the LM1 laser marking system is just 0.5 kW.

Labeling solutions from a single source.

As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of labeling systems, Murrplastik offers a complete system for all marking tasks. In addition to different labeling technologies ranging from thermal transfer printers to various inkjet printers to the new LM 1 laser marking system, Murrplastik offers perfectly matched marking materials. Most of the materials are halogen-free, comply with the V0 brand classification, are temperature-resistant up to 284° F and have railway and vehicle registration certifications.

New brackets allow Murrplastik cable drag chains to do even more.

New suction tubing brackets significantly
extend added value offered by
Murrplastik cable drag chains

This latest development means cable drag chain systems from Murrplastik Systemtechnik GmbH can now do more than just connect a power, hydrau-lic oil, air, water, gas or steam supply to mobile equipment.

Cable drag chain systems made by Murrplastik Systemtechnik,
Oppenweiler (nr. Stuttgart) are a smart solution: they supply mobile equipment with both power and data. Without an “umbilical cord” of this kind – which routes and protects the embedded, flexible cables or pneumatic/hydraulic hoses and ensures that the smallest possible bending radius can be maintained – the equipment’s supply lines would be rendered unusable in no time at all.

Thanks to the innovative skills of engineers at Murrplastik, the impressive utility of the Swabian-produced cable drag chains can now be improved still further. The basic idea couldn’t be simpler: instead of using the chain only on the equipment’s supply side, enhance the system so that it can also be used for waste ducting. Often, such enhancements use tubing made from many kinds of materials, for the suction removal of airborne particulates or welding gas at the workplace. In woodworking, too, waste – chippings and sawdust – very often needs removal by suction. Thanks to the existing modular system, it is now very simple to ensure the safe routing of this kind of suction tubing by using the new Murrplastik brackets attached to the PowerLine range of cable drag chains.

The brackets for suction tubing are either mounted on the frame bridges or (for closed chains) on the plastic or aluminium covers. With open chains, the brackets snap onto the frame bridges. If the chains are equipped with closed covers, then the brackets are bolted onto the covers. Tubing can be attached to the inside or outside bend of the chain. No modifications are made to the chains themselves. Accordingly, the standard shelving systems continue to be usable within the chain: these maintain the proper position of the various services, ensuring lines can move freely but not become twisted. If an application already has cable drag chains installed, then it is also very simple to retrofit the brackets to the system. If a piece of tubing needs replacing, the bracket can be removed and re-attached without difficulty and without needing to open up the chain. Since many different diameters of tubing are available, brackets can of course be supplied in several sizes.

Standard guide channel systems (VAW) from Murrplastik can be used to route the chains. We can supply matching adapters for this scenario, ensuring that the chain and brackets have sufficient clearance.

New glide shoes from Murrplastik extend life of cable drag chains.

efk_52-6_image_ori_01_pi72Who wants to live forever?
With Murrplastiks new sliding blocks, cable drag chains gain as much as a fivefold extension to their useful life.
The new sliding blocks from Oppenweiler-based Murrplastik Systemtechnik reduce surface wear suffered by cable drag chains installed with horizontal freedom of movement to effectively zero. The sliding blocks are fitted onto the side links in the cable drag chains inside bend. As a result, the chain side links ñ i.e. the chain upper and lower run ñ no longer rub against one another: all wear is borne by the sliding blocks. The cable drag chains thus suffer much less wear: the brunt of it is borne by the sliding blocks, just as intended. The result is impressive: cable drag chains gain as much as a fivefold extension to their useful life. Instead of replacing the entire cable drag chain, as is usually the case, system owners now need only swap out the sliding blocks. Installing the sliding blocks takes just a few moments and does not require the removal of the cable drag chain from the guide channel. The sliding blocks are optionally available for the Murrplastik PowerLine and HeavyLine cable drag chains.

Load stresses increasing for cable drag chains.
In recent years, mechanical specifications have become much more stringent for cable drag chains installed with horizontal freedom of movement. Problems with increasingly longer travel distances as required by plant and machinery engineers are compounded by a sharp rise in extra weight from control, data and supply cabling and, last but not least, the rising tempo at which modern plant is operated. Particularly where travel distances exceed three meters, applicable mechanical stresses then start to rise exponentially. The consequences:
ï Cable drag chains wear out faster
ï More frequent end-to-end replacement of cable drag chains
ï Downtimes increase as a result of repairs and/or maintenance windows
ï In short: profitability takes a hit.

Picture 2: The sliding blocks are fitted onto the side links in the cable drag chains inside bend.

The sliding block.
Reduced chain wear ensures greater profitability.
To solve the problem, Murrplastik Systemtechnik devised a simple but ingenious solution: the sliding block. Instead of the usual frame bridge interlocks, the sliding blocks are fitted onto the side links in the cable drag chains inside bend. The fully tool-less installation takes a matter of moments to lock the blocks into place. For removal, technicians merely require a screwdriver to disengage the sliding block.
The sliding blocks are 4 mm thick for PowerLine cable drag chains and 6 mm thick for HeavyLine cable drag chains. Murrplastik recommends replacing blocks once they wear down to a thickness of 1.5 mm. As a result, only the comparatively inexpensive sliding blocks will now need to be replaced, instead of the entire cable drag chain. Practical tests show that cable drag chains can gain as much as a fivefold extension to their useful life. Accordingly, the sliding blocks pay for themselves after only a short period of use. As a result, maintenance cycles for Murrplastik cable drag chains do not need to be planned so close together.

Picture 3: Sliding block installation is fully tool-less
, taking just a few moments to lock the blocks in place on the chain.

Its all down to modern materials science.
Murrplastiks engineers developed the sliding blocks using a novel synthetic material specially optimised for low-friction applications while also making full use of the materials science ìcookbook. One key aspect here was finding the right balance for the material formulation ñ hard enough to guard against wear while staying soft enough for a good low-friction profile. The design of the new sliding blocks reflects a technically optimum compromise.
The new sliding blocks in glass-making.
Glass manufacturing is one of the most demanding fields of application for Murrplastiks new sliding blocks. Handling machinery is used to move glass panels around and supply them to processing plant. A core issue for all moving parts in the manufacturing system is the high concentration of glass dust in the environment. As a result, cable drag chains do not merely experience ìnatural wear but also suffer from a ìsandpaper effect between their upper and lower runs. Here, Murrplastiks sliding blocks are a real blessing. Practical experience shows sliding blocks can more than double the useful life of cable drag chains in such conditions.

Murrplastik Introduces a Cable Drag Chain Solution for Heavy Duty Applications

Cable Drag ChainMilford, OH…. Murrplastik Systems, leaders in cable drag chain products and innovation, have introduced a new model into their PowerLine Cable Drag Series designed to meet the growing demand for greater loading, distance and speed capacities. The new MP 52.6 features a significant increase in chain side link wall thickness resulting in a 1.5X increase in maximum tractive force.

In addition to the optimized distribution of tensile forces, the MP 52.6 cable drag chain also features more stable operation and less wear while considerably extending the chain’s useful life. Additionally, a new latch mechanism answers the demand for even greater simplification of installation and servicing work. This new latch system makes it possible to open the frame bridges from the top allowing the cable drag chain to be left where it is in the guide channel during upgrades and repairs.

Another new optional feature of the MP 52.6 are sliding blocks that serve to further minimize wear to the chain side links. They feature a specially designed 4 mm wear zone and are fitted onto the side links in the cable drag chain’s inside bend instead of the usual frame bridge interlocks. This results in the sliding blocks wearing down first and foremost, thus extending the life of the cable drag chain.

The new MP 52.6 features a chain side link thickness of 25 mm (compared to the standard product 16 mm) and an inside chain height of 52 mm. The flexible MP shelving system permits the definition of any internal width from 45 mm to 600 mm. It is designed specifically for heavy-duty tasks in the mid-size performance category where operating loads are increasing due to extra control, data and supply cabling and/or extended travel distances.   The MP 52.6 is designed specifically to handle the resultant exponential increase in tensile.
